  • Research: Distributed wind power would smooth out electricity price fluctuations

According to a study by LUT University, the concentration of Finnish wind power on the west coast causes large fluctuations in electricity prices, because the simultaneous production peak sharply lowers the market price. By decentralizing wind power in Eastern and Northern Finland, prices could also remain more stable, producers' incomes would be more stable, and the electricity grid would be less loaded. • WindEurope: Governments must ensure stable rules of the game for wind power growth

Wind power construction in Europe is progressing too slowly, warns the industry's umbrella organization WindEurope. According to the organization, the EU's energy security and competitiveness are at risk unless national governments streamline permitting processes and support electrification and grid investments. According to WindEurope's Viktoriya Kerelska, the Finnish government also needs to create a predictable operating environment so that the country's significant wind power potential can be fully utilized.
